The Denise Ferran Collection -
 



    Denise Ferran Denise is currently Head of Education at the Ulster Museum, Belfast. A former teacher and Head of Art at St Dominics High School, Belfast, Denise Ferran is also an Honours Art History Graduate of the Courtaulds Institute of London University. She is an associate of the Royal Ulster Academy and has participated in the Royal Hibernian Academy Exhibitions annually since 1985.

She has also had many solo exhibitions including shows at Queens University, The Fenderesky Gallery, Belfast and the Cavehill Gallery Belfast. In 1988 she illustrated the book cover for Fermanagh Childhood, Friars Bush Press and illustrated the life of St Catherine for Dominican Convent, Belfast. A frequent broadcaster, she contributed Radio Interviews of current art exhibitions from 1973-89, from 1989-93 interviews for Radio Ulster and exhibitions and events at the Ulster Museum.

Recently, she is a regular contributor to BBC Evening Extra on current art exhibitions and RTE arts programmes. She has received numerous awards including the Ulster Academy Silver Medal 1974, the Ulster Academy Water-Colour-Prize, 1991. Artist-In-Residence Award at Lucca, Italy, from Pittsburg University, USA. 1983. Denise Ferran is a member of many important committees. She is Chairperson of the Irish Heritage Eduction Network, IMA Educational Group and Association of Art and Design Education.

She is also a member of Belfast Education and Library Board Adult Education Committee, the Ulster Museum Art Committee and Northern Ireland Committee of Heritage Lottery Fund. She was invited by the National Gallery, Dublin to prepare a catalogue and select a major retrospective exhibition on the work of WJ Leech for 1996 at the National Gallery, DublinŐ 1997 at Quimper, Brittany and the Ulster Museum. Leech was the subject of her PH.D, awarded in 1998. She is currently pursuing research on Leechs first wife, Elizabeth Leech, a painter from Boston.
